Description
#

One day I discovered a fascinating project on the Internet that has become an indispensable daily companion in my life. It proved to be extremely useful in my traveling between cities and interacting with various computers. I decided to explore its possibilities and make the most of it.

Uniqueness
#

The Freemen Mesh build is based on the famous file manager Total Commander, embodied in unique online repository. Which turns it into a real constructor, providing the ability to update everything in the spirit of rolling release. The main process of building a personal Total Commander is to install the constructor cubes, which are offered by the repository, calling them - packages (currently about 350).

This is an interactive builder that allows you to create your own builds of Total Commander (writes the author).

Community
#

It is written in the network that the project has several authors, as well as the community taking not a small part in the life of the project. Everyone can ask in chat about fixing a bug or adding a new package.

Downloadtotalcmd-bootstrap.bat

The main console online installer according to the community, it also offers presets for installing a set of preconfigured plugins and programs. After installing Total Commander, you can access it via menu # > Bootstrap CMD

Download bootstrap-totalcmd.exe

windows 8 and up, only x64 ~35kb

Tested, silent online installer that doesn’t ask any questions, just run and wait for Total Commander to start.

Download Total Commander - Freemen Mesh.exe

windows 7 and up, only x64 ~10Mb

Classically offline installer written on Inno Setup which contains pure Total Commander with author’s add-ons and allows to install additional packages if internet is available. Unfortunately it is not updated very often.

tcfpkg.exe
#

windows 7 and above

Menu # > CMD Repository

The core of the project is a console utility that installs all packages and manages them, as I understand it has undocumented functions, for example it can replace characters in files like sed. It can be used from the command line, for example on Windows 7, when its graphical part (tcfpkgui.exe) cannot work due to the lack of .net 4.x.

tcfpkg -u - update repository
tcfpkg -i <pkg> - install package
tcfpkg -pi <pkg> - advanced package information
tcfpkg -r <pkg> - remove package
tcfpkg -l [filter] - list of packages in the repository
tcfpkg -li [filter] - list of installed packages
tcfpkg -lis [filter] - short list of installed packages

It is also possible to use tcfpkg.exe directly from the Ctrl + ↓ command line by writing em_tcf and any tcfpkg.exe keys. In this example, we install the fsviewer package by its id.

em_tcf -i fsviewer

tcfpkgui.exe
#

.net 4.0 and above

Menu # > Repository GUI.

The GUI for tcfpkg.exe allows you to install/update/uninstall packages, as well as manage file association binding.

Total Commander
#

Menu # > GUI Repository > <Total Commander>.

This is the main section containing kernel add-on packages, panel and workspace icon sets, favourite directories and hotkeys. It is possible to create your own sets and via community ask to add them to the reputation. At least one package from each group must be installed for it to work properly:

  • baricons main - main set of Default.bar and Vertical.bar icons
  • baricons packages - set of Default.bar package icons
  • dirmenu - menu of favorite directories
  • shortcuts - hotkeys
  • iconlib - set of icons of the working environment
  • wcmicon2 - set of menu icons

F4
#

fchooser.exe
#

.net 4.0 and above

Menu # > Setup F4

This is an interesting development that I have not seen in any other build. A very fast utility called by pressing F4 on any file to open it in an editor, player, …. also allows you to edit these file associations.

I managed to figure out which keys it can accept:

fchooser.exe /del ../Soft/inet/jopa.exe
  • remove all associations with the program jopa.exe
fchooser.exe /add exe,com,txt ../Soft/inet/jopa.exe
  • associate exe,com,txt with jopa.exe
